An Afternoon of American Music at the Arkell

A special fundraising concert of American music featuring evocative compositions of Ives, Copland, Bacon, Gershwin, Bernstein, Jones & Schmidt, John Williams and more. The musical program complements the collections with musical portraits from the “golden age” of America’s 1920’s to the end of the century. The program of instrumental, vocal solos, and duets includes such titles as “The Circus Band”, “Lucky to be me”, “Down East”, “A man and a woman”, and includes musical portraits of “Our Town”, and movie music of John Williams.

$8 for members (arrive early to enjoy your member benefit of free admission to the galleries)
$10 for non-members (includes free admission to the galleries prior to the concert)

Holiday Gift Fair

Come support the library and museum and get your holiday shopping done! Our annual holiday fair features local arts and crafts vendors selling soaps, wreaths, quilts, cards, art prints, woodcrafts, pottery, knit items and more! Spend the day and enjoy lunch and baked goods from the Palatine Literary Society.

At 12:00pm families can join us in the Reading room for a performance of Holly Jolly Holidays by the musical storytelling duo “Tales n Tunes.” A festive combination of music and storytelling excitement, this performance will spark kids' imaginations and get everybody in a holiday mood. Do you hear sleigh bells jingling? Come and sing along! From 11:00-3:00 families can build a miniature gingerbread house to take home and enjoy.
