The Erie Impact: How the Erie Canal Changed Food

Many of us know that the construction of the Erie Canal was hailed as one of the greatest architectural feats ever seen, but did you know that it dramatically changed what we eat and how we grow it? From agriculture to industry, the canal's construction brought about sweeping changes. Join the Arkell Museum's Curator of Education & Public Engagement Jenna Peterson Riley for an exploration of these changes, from paper bags to Beech-Nut and beyond!

This program is free but donations are welcome. For more information, please contact Curator of Education & Public Engagement Jenna Peterson Riley at jriley@arkellmuseum.org or (518) 673-2314 x 113.

Historic Songs of the Erie Canal with Cosby Gibson & Tom Staudle

Join us for a lively celebration of the music of the Erie Canal with songwriters and singers Cosby Gibson & Tom Staudle. Gibson & Staudle have been performing for seven years in hundreds of events. Together they play acoustic and blues-style originals and favorites with a variety of instruments such as guitar, violin, banjo, harmonica, and ukulele, and are excited to celebrate the bicentennial of the Erie Canal with a performance combining the history and music of "Clinton's Ditch."

Doors open at 6:30, and the concert begins at 7:00. Admission is free, and donations are gratefully accepted. For more information, contact Curator of Education & Public Engagement Jenna Peterson Riley at jriley@arkellmusem.org or call (518) 673 2314 x 113.
